Conserving Dahlov Ipcar

In 1978, Dahlov Ipcar the painter and author of such wonderful books as The Calico Jungle, created a series of murals at the Patten Free Library in Bath, Maine.

The murals range from 2 x 3 ft to 5 x 25 ft.

They have been well taken care of, however, over time maintenance to all murals is appropriate.

We worked with the administration and curatorial staff to develop a plan that can be executed over time to accommodate budget guidelines. Fogg Art cleaned 2 murals, stabilized the substrates, reattached flaking paint, in- painted losses and adjusted previous background colors.

Finally ultraviolet screening plexiglass was put in front of the murals that are within reach of the public and exposed to sunlight.
